Making a revision timetable

Ground rules

  1. Be honest with yourself.
  2. Make sure you only work on your own timetable: do not suggest any particular time slot to anyone else.
  3. The timetable will become personalised to your child, so give them time to think, reflect and complete the task.
  4. Parents and guardians, your role is to supervise and understand what your child is doing. You do not need to be a master at it.

Step 1

Cross out all the times you cannot revise from Monday to Friday.

Step 2

Select TWO different hourly slots you will revise in, weekdays only. Label the top right corner as R1 and R2.

Step 3

Place TWO different subjects per slot. If you have used up all your options, repeat with subjects you struggle with.

Step 4

Cross out all the times you cannot revise on the weekend.

Step 5

Select two different 2 hour blocks (one on Saturday and one on Sunday, or both on the same day) and label them Block 1 and Block 2.

Step 6

Cross off the rest of the empty spaces: they are your time.

Key things to remember: no one can force you to follow this timetable, you are in charge of it. Trial it for 2 weeks, and change the revision slots or move lessons around if you need to. If you miss a session, do not add it to the next day: leave it until the next rotation, or complete it during the weekend blocks. Record your progress and track it. Parents, allow your child to take responsibility and nudge them a little when they need encouragement. Work on an 80/20 basis: if your child is completing at least 80% of the revision sessions, give them that leeway in case they miss one.
